Reincarnation Beliefs in ECKANKAR: A Journey of Soul
Reincarnation as central pillar in ECKANKAR is fundamental to understanding karma, spiritual growth, and the meaning of spirituality Itself. In ECKANKAR we learn to experience ourselves as Soul, a being that moves from lifetime to lifetime in search of truth. The purpose of reincarnation is to learn that Soul is a spiritual being and is loved by God unconditionally. We come to realize God as a real presence in our lives.
The Soul's Eternal Journey
Reincarnation is therefore not seen merely as a series of physical lifetimes but as ongoing opportunities for Soul to gain experience, learn lessons, and gradually move closer to realizing its Divine nature. The ultimate goal is freedom from the need for lifetime after lifetime, birth and re-birth. Reincarnation is a spiritual process of growing which we learn to step beyond. The ultimate goal is spiritual freedom.
Karma and Spiritual Growth
Karma is at the heart of reincarnation; it determines the need and type of life we will lead in the future and those we have led in the past. Karma provides the checks and balances for spiritual growth and is God’s plan for Soul to grow spiritually, find spiritual freedom and inner peace through its own choices. It leads us upward ultimately to God’s love.
Learning Through Lifetimes
Each lifetime offers unique lessons and opportunities for spiritual growth. What we create in our daily lives, our actions, even our thoughts, returns to us as karma which fashions the lives we lead. Challenges and hardships are not punishments but opportunities for Soul to develop spiritually, to live a life of inner peace and intuition. Our lives become an individual path where we follow our own unique experiences guided by God because God is real
Dreams, Soul Travel, and Past Life Memories
ECKANKAR emphasizes the importance of dreams, Soul Travel, and the recognition of past life recalls as tools for understanding our spiritual nature and the lessons we need to learn. These experiences can provide insights into our karmic patterns and help us to make more spiritually informed choices in our lives.
The Guidance of the Mahanta
The spiritual leader in ECKANKAR is the Mahanta. He is a guide who helps each Soul take the middle path of understanding, through karma and reincarnation. The Mahanta offers guidance both in this physical world and the inner spiritual planes and that guidance includes the meaning of our dreams. Intuition also plays a large part in assisting individuals to hear the voice of the Mahanta and God and to understand their past and present lives, their truths and opportunities for spiritual growth.
Liberation and Spiritual Freedom
The ultimate aim of understanding and working through reincarnation in ECKANKAR is to achieve spiritual liberation. This is a state of consciousness where Soul becomes fully aware of its Divine nature and transcends the cycle of birth and death, achieving spiritual freedom.
Conclusion
ECKANKAR understands reincarnation as a deeply meaningful aspect of Soul's eternal journey. By embracing the lessons of past lives and the guidance of the Mahanta today, followers of ECKANKAR live more consciously and spiritually connected to God’s love, wisdom and inner guidance. This spiritual understanding moves us closer to inner peace and an understanding of our Divine nature.

Echoes of the Past: A 3-Year-Old’s Journey Through Reincarnation
The video titled “ECKANKAR: Reincarnation & Past Lives Explained” recounts an intriguing incident involving a three-year-old girl who spontaneously shares a vivid memory of a past life with a 15-year-old. The young child describes a tragic car accident from her previous life, claiming her name was Amanda and recounting details about the event as if it were a recent experience. This moment prompts reflection from both the older girl and her mother on the concept of reincarnation, emphasizing that such experiences are a natural part of life’s cycle according to ECKANKAR beliefs. The discussion highlights the idea that reincarnation is simply another phase in the ongoing journey of the soul, and while not everyone may grasp this concept at a certain point in their lives, those further along their spiritual path understand that there is a way to transcend the repetitive cycle of life and death.

The Spiritual Experience in Reincarnation
Here is an excerpt from the 1993 book: "The Dream Master, Mahanta Transcripts, Book 8" by Harold Klemp, leader of ECKANKAR, comparing the reincarnation process to accessing levels in a video game.
"By Hard Experience I had lunch with a few friends recently. “What’s happening to the video arcades?” I asked them. “I’ve noticed in the last few years that not as many people go to these places.” “More people are buying home computer games,” one of our group said. “They are very instructive and a lot of fun. Some really good games are available now. One is called Zelda II: The Legend of Link.” The hero in this home computer game is called Link. Link goes from level to level, through many worlds, meeting all kinds of opposition. One of his obstacles is a bush. By using the right tool, he finds the secret passageway that takes him to another level. Even if you can’t use the tool on a certain level, you keep it for possible future use. Eventually you realize that you can’t get past level three without a tool picked up on level one. You learn by hard experience, by playing the game again and again. Soul’s Total Experience It is very much the same as the spiritual experience in reincarnation. In each incarnation we pick up tools—we learn a particular lesson or develop a certain skill. But the problem is this: As we go into succeeding lifetimes, we forget what we have learned before. If we only knew how to tap into our total experience as Soul, we could look to the past and draw upon a tool once mastered but now forgotten. We could bring that tool into this lifetime and use it to solve a problem that is holding us back on the spiritual path, a problem that is preventing us from going to the next level. Present Tools People outside of ECK generally get the tools by continuing to reincarnate—a very slow process. In ECK we want to take a more direct route. This is why I teach dream and Soul Travel techniques."

We Have Lived Before - Reincarnation Beliefs
"In ECK we don’t begin with original sin; we look at life quite differently. Many Christians believe that life begins at birth—as if the creation of Soul takes place at the birth of the human body—and ends at death, and then continues on in heaven. In ECK we learn, sometimes through past-life experiences in the dream state, that we have lived more than just one life. We have lived thousands of lives. In each life we gather talents, tools, and lessons which help in our spiritual unfoldment in subsequent lifetimes, including this one. Christianity’s arena is limited to this one physical lifetime; in ECK we gain a broader vision. We recognize that Soul enters many different bodies throughout Its journey in the lower worlds. The ECKist learns that the reason he is reborn again and again is to learn how to love, to overcome those traits which prevent him or her from becoming a Coworker with God. In each life we learn a little bit more. There is, of course, the grace of God which brings us to the Light and Sound and to the MAHANTA; but at the same time, there is just as much effort required on our part. In Christianity, it’s usually just grace, even at the eleventh hour. It’s something that either does or doesn’t come to you, and if it comes, then you’re fine."

Reincarnation
"Rebirth, the process of Soul entering a new body each time It enters this world.
Reincarnation also refers to the whole journey of Soul in the lower worlds, the karmic coming and going, via many births and deaths, on the Wheel of The Eighty-Four. We are reincarnated on various planes and planets until we meet the Sat Guru and progress through the ECK initiations on our way to complete spiritual freedom on the Soul Plane."

Past Lives
"Past-life recall is a prominent feature of ECKANKAR. People are often startled to learn that they carry the past with them on their shirtsleeves. Whenever we have strong loves or hates, it means we have drawn the past into the present by agreement. The past is old emotions collected and gathered around us like keepsakes. They appear to us as family members, friends, and enemies. Our past thoughts and actions even shape our physical appearance, as well as our character and temperament. The cause of everything that occurs in our life is chronicled in the Causal Plane, and we are a reflection of that journal.
All the lives you have ever lived were for the polishing of Soul. Regardless of your station or circumstances, you are now at a higher spiritual level than in any previous lifetime.
The Causal Plane is where you find the seed of all Karma created in the past and learn about the past lives that influence you today."

"A Technique to Try
There are various ways to rediscover your past lives. This learning can take place in the Dream State or via the Spiritual Exercises of ECK.
One technique is to chant the word MANA, the word for the Causal Plane, in contemplation. Ask for the Mahanta's help to see a past life that would be beneficial for you to be aware of at this time."

Reincarnation - Wheel of the Eighty-Four
"In Soul's journey of Spiritual unfoldment, it goes through a long process of Reincarnation, taking on different forms and experiencing many states of consciousness. Soul does this in order to conquer the influences outside Itself.
This spiritual journey takes Soul through the twelve paths, or divisions, of the Wheel of the Eighty-Four. This wheel is also called the Bhavachakra, the Wheel of Awagawan, the Wheel of Becoming, the Wheel of Life, or the Wheel of Samsara.
The number eighty-four indicates the almost countless incarnations Soul may experience, for it may have to spend many lifetimes in each of the twelve paths, divisions, or zodiacal signs and repeat this seven times. This journey is sometimes measured in lacs-periods of one hundred thousand years-so it might take eight million, four hundred thousand years.
There is an escape from these endless cycles: meeting with the Living ECK Master and accepting him. The Master links Soul to the ECK Stream of Life, via initiation. This Soul is then released from the rounds of births and deaths and is free of the Wheel of the Eighty-Four. This is spiritual liberation in this lifetime."

What Does ECKANKAR Say About Reincarnation?
"Each of us is Soul, a divine, eternal spark of God. We come to this world to gain spiritual experience.
Through many lifetimes in the physical world, each of us comes to a full realization of our innate godlike qualities, fulfilling our destiny to love as God loves.
Karma and reincarnation are primary beliefs in Eᴄᴋᴀɴᴋᴀʀ. We build up karma as a result of the spiritual Law of Cause and Effect. The ECK (Holy Spirit) helps us resolve karma, making it possible for us to find a balance and accept the full love of God in this lifetime. We gain wisdom, charity, and freedom. We become an individual expression of God’s love."
